Ocean Beach Duplex

Ocean Beach has a personality unlike anywhere else in San Diego — laid-back, eclectic, and deeply connected to the ocean. This ground-up duplex is designed to fit within that character while bringing modern living standards to a neighborhood that deserves thoughtful architecture.

The duplex places two distinct homes on a single lot, each with its own entry, outdoor space, and sense of identity. The design avoids the cookie-cutter approach that plagues so many multi-unit projects. Instead, each unit is laid out to take advantage of its specific orientation — one favoring morning light, the other capturing afternoon sun and ocean breezes.

The exterior draws from the relaxed coastal vocabulary of Ocean Beach without resorting to pastiche. Natural materials, a warm color palette, and varied rooflines give the building a scale and texture that relates to the surrounding homes. Landscaping plays a key role in softening the street presence and creating a sense of arrival.

Inside, the units prioritize open floor plans with generous kitchens that open to living and dining areas. Outdoor patios extend the living space and provide room for the kind of casual entertaining that defines OB living. High ceilings and strategic window placement ensure every room is filled with natural light.

Currently in the design phase, this project reflects our belief that density and character can coexist — that building two homes on one lot doesn't mean compromising on quality, livability, or neighborhood fit.
